As part of our Wicked Winter Collection, this scrubby whipped soap speaks to the Indian folklore of Chedipe. Our Wicked Winter Collection honors and celebrates the complexities of certain magical yet made to be villainous women.
Chedipe, an Indian vampire that comes from rich Indian mythology, is a feminine creature who preys on the naive through malevolent tricks. Sometimes referred to as a prostitute witch, she represents themes of sensuality, witchcraft and evil. She encapsulates the complicated dynamics of gender, power and cultural conventions.
This bubble bath and body wash comes in our skull pump bottle, making for a delicious soak in the tub or wash in the shower. These suds will leave the skin soft, hydrated, clean and cool. The ingredients leave the skin with an ever so slightly cooling sensation.
Rosemary, Sage, Lavender, Garam Masala, Amber, Jaggery, Date Sugar & Murumuru Butter make for this intriguing blend.
A violent or terrible death is how a woman in life would become a Chedipe. Those who believe in her say that in life, she would’ve been a woman who violated social constructs, expressed herself sexually, and lived a life unrestrained.
If you see a Chedipe during the day, she may look like a regular living woman. However, at night, she rides her tiger through the shadows and is able to be her truest most authentic self.
She represents wild savagery and rules the night and has this authoritative reputation over both the natural and the supernatural world. She is often held responsible for household conflict, bad luck & misfortune.
One of my favorite details about her is how her mythology encourages a fear of women who defy social norms, causing social disruption. Chedipe is both a figure of dark intrigue as well as a cautionary tale. That a woman who violates social rules in life may still be able to wild influence and wreak havoc after death.
