Why brooms? Well first and foremost, tis (about to be) the season, witches! Practical and magical associations with the broom go far beyond the stories of witches using them as charmed vehicles to soar through the skies, or nestling magical items among their bristles…The practice of sweeping the home or magical circle as a means to cleanse physically AND energetically spans numerous cultures - earning the broom an important role in folk and high magical practices. Kita will speak more on the lore of the broom, including the ways in which her Persian and rural Virginian familial practices have endeared the humble broom to her as we craft and weave our hand-sweepers.

PLEASE NOTE-Though your brooms will be anything but conventional, we will be utilizing the traditional broomsquire’s method of broom making which can be a bit physical - you will need to be barefoot for this technique and maintain some tension with your arms. All material and tools will be provided for you, along with light snacks and (spiked or not) beverages.

From the artist-

I’m Kita: the artist/maker behind all these witches, infernal femmes, & lettering designs. I, like many, identify with archetype of the Witch - with my artwork serving as my alchemy, my practice. My work draws on & rewrites folkloric femmes & misogynistic mythos - recasting them with bodies of all hues, sizes, & identities.

Stay Strange & Subversive.
